  Communion

This painting by Ojibwa artist Joe Geshick shows a pregnant woman communicating with god in a sweat lodge. The lodge represents the stomach of mother earth. Both the woman and sweat lodge represent the strengthening and the giver of a good life through the teaching and visions handed down by god.

The vertical composition, along with the red and green garment the woman wears, represents the communion: a communion of people of all colors working toward a better understanding of their natural relationship with each other and all the natural elements of the earth.
